Unveiling the Past Kim Vogel Sawyer

Description:

Mysteries, family secrets, and the love of a true Father are found at the heart of this gripping novel from the bestselling author of Bringing Maggie Home

Newlyweds Sean Eagle and Meghan DeFord are no strangers to pain and loss. As cold-case detectives, they know intimately the anguish family members endure after the murder or disappearance of a loved one. But when a new case hits too close to home, it threatens to pull loose the fragile cords of their young marriage.

Sheila Menke was just a girl when her father left for work and never returned. An investigation revealed he had embezzled enough to start a new life elsewhere, but Sheila could never accept the court’s criminalization of her father. Meghan reluctantly takes the case, secretly fearing it will stir up buried feelings about her own biological father. And while Sean investigates the mysterious death of two young brothers, he longs to start a family. But Meghan worries that with a negligent mother and an absentee father as her parenting examples, she might never be fit for motherhood.

As they delve deeper into the past, both Meghan and Sheila must choose to either stumble along the road of bitterness and resentment or walk the difficult path toward forgiveness and healing. When the cases begin to break wide open, these young women are poised to discover that while earthly fathers may fail, there is one in heaven who is a father to the fatherless.

My thoughts on the book:

So I have never read anything by this author before so I didn’t know what to expect. However I was not disappointed. The author does have four main characters, however it was not hard to follow the author labeled when the change happened. I liked how there was suspense to the book and it really draws you in and leaves you wanting more with every turn of the page. I really liked Hazel so much, she spoke her mind but had a way of doing it in such a loving way, also had me laughing. Meghan and Shelia had a way of making you feel like you could relate with them and the author made it feel like I was catching up with a friend. This book did not disappoint at all, I really like that this was a good clean read suitable for all readers. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion.

Collision of Lies Tom Threadgill

Description:

Threadgill plunges a detective from the San Antonio Property Crimes Division into a deep-laid plot involving murder, kidnapping, and myriad other crimes above her pay grade.”–Kirkus Reviews

Three years ago, a collision between a fast-moving freight train and a school bus full of kids led to devastation and grief on an unimaginable scale. But a fresh clue leads San Antonio police detective Amara Alvarez to the unlikely conclusion that one of the children may still be alive. If she’s correct, everything law enforcement believes about the accident is a lie.

With time running out, Amara must convince others–and herself–that despite all evidence to the contrary, the boy lives. And she will do everything in her power to bring him home.

A fresh voice in suspense, Tom Threadgill will have you questioning everything as you fly through the pages of this enthralling story.

My thoughts on the book:

I have never read anything by this author so I didn’t know what to expect. I will start off by saying over all the story was good, there is no romance in this book at all the author hints at it throughout but I just was not ever part of the storyline as a whole ever. I did however felt like the book was wordy and some things I could have gone without. I will say the story will keep you guessing and leave you wondering who else is involved. This author does keep this story a clean read so it would be suitable for all. There are some tough issues that may not be ok with some but over all a very suspenseful book. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

Interview with Mary Alford Plus a Giveaway

Yall I am so happy to be able to sit down with Mary and find out some fun stuff stay till the end of the Interview to enter to win a book by Mary Alford. Thank you Mary for sitting down with me to do this interview.

Mary-Thank you, Sarah, for reaching out to me!

I wanted to start off with some random questions and then I will jump in to your books. Ok let’s get started.

  • What are some of your Hobbies?

Is reading considered a hobby? I’m huge reader. My Kindle is full of books and I keep adding to them almost every day. And in our neighborhood, we have our own reading club. The ladies of the neighborhood pass around the books they’ve read. Right now, I have a bag full of books to read. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to read everything that I want to read.

In addition to reading, I love to play the piano. For me, playing Christian songs on the piano is another way to draw closer to God. A form of worship.

I also play at gardening, (I say play because I mostly have a black thumb), and I love doing crafts, especially around Christmas time.

  • Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

For me, coffee is a necessity. I can’t start my day without two cups of Starbucks House Blend, (though I think it’s mostly mental since I drink decaf).

  • What’s your favorite go to meal?

Hum, that’s a hard one. Most of our meals are simple, but if I could name one meal that’s a favorite, I’d say its homemade pizza with everything, and I mean everything, on it.

  • I know some authors like to have certain snacks or drinks while they write, do you have a favorite snack food or drink around why you write?

I do! I’m a huge fan of peanut butter M&Ms and Bai Coconut Water. It’s hard to write without them. They’ve become part of my routine, although only a handful of the M&Ms. The Bai Coconut Water, well, I don’t feel bad about drinking them.

  • Do you or did you have a person that inspired you to write?

My husband has always been my biggest supporter. He encourages me to keep going when sometimes that’s not an easy thing to do, and when I fail, he props me up. He’s amazing. I can’t imagine doing what I do without him.

  • Do you have a Favorite place to write?

I know a lot of authors have offices and I do as well, but more times than not, I’ve got my laptop in my lap and I’m in my recliner with the TV going, or not. I can write either way.

  • Do you have a favorite author?

Yes, I have many. But the two that most inspire me are Lynette Eason and Christy Barritt. These ladies are dynamos. Not only are the amazing storytellers, but they are humble and giving women. I’ve asked them both for advice many times and they’re always willing to help.

  • I love that you write suspense it seems like very book I have ever read by you always have me on the edge of my seat. Is there something that inspires you to write suspense?

I’d say it’s what I enjoy reading more than anything, and I love the challenge of pitting good and against evil. Though I’m the author and I know the outcome going into a story, the journey to get to that happy ending can be challenging and thrilling to write. I love that!

  • Out of all your books do you have a favorite?

I know its corny, but my favorite is the next book I’m writing. I just turned in another Amish Suspense set in West Kootenai, Montana, and I hated to see it end. Now, I’m starting a new spy story for the next installment of the Cost of Redemption series, and I’m chomping at the bit to tell CIA Director Coleman Dean’s story.

  • I know you just released two books this month Blackbird and Amish Country Kidnapping do you have a favorite character in either one of these stories?

I love how broken the heroine in Blackbird, Sara Hersberger, is. She survived her father’s abuse only to believe he’s a serial killer. How do you get beyond that? Both Blackbird and Amish Country Kidnapping are second chance stories where the hero and heroine had once been in love, but for different reasons, their romance didn’t survive. Now they have a second chance. Those types of stories are favorites of mine.

  • Both stories are Amish based do you find it hard to keep the stories close to their Authenticity even though these are fiction books?

Amish stories in particular are hard to write, because there are religious beliefs that the Amish adhere to that must be respected. I do tons of research to make sure that I do justice to the Plain way of life, but yes, it is hard, especially when you have an Amish hero or heroine and someone who isn’t at the time of the story.

  • Which scene was most difficult to write?

In my March release, Amish Country Murder, I have a heroine who is being held by a serial killer. Writing about how desperate she felt while being held hostage, and then the terrifying escape scene were so hard to write. I wanted to keep them real, but there were limits to what I could put in the book. Writing about bad guys can be difficult.

  • Were there scenes you ended up cutting you wish you could’ve kept?

Having to cut scenes is hard. Off the top of my head, I’d say having to tone down some of the scenes to fit the story is the hardest for me. All of my books are Christian books, so it’s a balance to keep the stories real, and yet not offend anyone.

  • If you can, can you tell us what is next?

I just turned in my November Love Inspired story that is again set in West Kootenai, Montana, and it is the first book in a series about the Shelter brothers. The first book features Aaron Shelter and a woman who is on the run and hiding out near the community.

I’m also working on book four of the Courage Under Fire series. It is entitled Chinook Winds. It is the final in this series but will introduce another exiting series to come.

Well thank you again for Taking the time to do this interview

-Thank you, Sarah, for inviting me to share this time with you.

Now for the fun part click on the link below to enter to win a book by Mary. I love all her books so I am happy to be giving one away. Thank you all so much for stopping by so glad to have you here. Hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did.

My thoughts on the book:

This book was amazing I really had a hard time putting it down. The author deals with some tragic situations. I honestly feel like the situations in this book could be totally be pulled from the headlines. I loved Brooke and her friends they all seemed to have a heart for others no matter what they are facing. I loved how Brooke was able to face some of her fears and keep fighting for what was right. I liked Asher, while sometimes it seemed more that Brooke was saving him, he always seemed to have everyones best interest at heart. Now can we please talk about Lyric she was my favorite her and Sarah need to be friends and have there stories told, they both this take no prisoner attitude in them and will stop at nothing. I liked that this book was a good clean read and that even thought there were tough subjects the author kept you going from beginning to end.  I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts on the book:

Where to begin with this book. So you know when you get on a rollercoaster and it starts off slow then starts to pick up and slows down a little then some twist and turns and then slows for a sec before the last climb and the biggest drop and the whole time you are holding on for dear life because you don’t know what’s coming, yeah well that is this book. If had be guessing what was going to happen next and who was going to live, die and who was going to make the next biggest jump. So so good. I will say this while there was a small part in the book I really wish the author would have followed up it did not break the whole book for me, I just wanted to know what happened lol. I loved that the author held nothing back, the author does take you all over with your emotions and yet kept the book a clean read and suitable for all. I would say give yourself some time because once you start you will not want to stop reading. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. With the stakes getting higher by the moment in a twisted conspiracy, there’s a rush against the clock to determine whom they can really trust. As allies turn to enemies, the biggest secret yet to be uncovered could be the end of all of them.

My thoughts on the book:

“I think they might be keeping dead bodies in their condo”. Any book that starts off with that sentence you know you are in for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I could not put this book down I really wanted to know what was going to happen next. The author truly keeps you guessing from beginning to end. At one point I thought I had it all figured out and then the author would throw in a twist and keep you winding what was going to happen next. I really can’t say I had a favorite character in this book I have to say I really enjoyed everyone on the team for all different reasons and I really want to know what happens with them. I like Izzy and how she held back but when things needed done she got them done. This book is a good clean read and you will not regret reading this book.

In this sequel to the USA Today Bestselling story, Storm Warnings, the Strike Force team is determined to finish the mission that started two years earlier in the deserts of Afghanistan with the deaths of Sidney’s entire CIA unit.

Be sure to read all the stories in the series :

Distant Thunder – See how the conspiracy first began
Storm Warnings – Prequel to Book One
Strike Force – Book One
Zero Visibility – Book Two
Thin Ice – Book Three
Chinook Winds – Book Four

My thoughts on the book:

Oh my goodness. this book had me on the edge of my seat and I did not want to put it down. The one question that had me asking the whole book was how deep does Legion go? and will they ever get caught. I really loved Piper she felt beat down but never seem to give up she wanted to keep fighting and trying to save as many people as she could. Reed was a gentle soul but continued the fight with Piper and ever sometime would try and get her step back but she kept fighting which really added to the story because no matter what they faced they did it together. I loved the Strike force team I have my thoughts on one member but I don’t want to ruin it. So read it and tell me if you think you might know who I’m talking about. This book is a good clean read and you can’t go wrong.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Mary Alford comes a brand new Amish Suspense series that will take you to the stunning vistas of the Mission Mountains of Montana where even in the quiet St. Ignatius Amish Community, danger and intrigue lurks!

My thoughts on the book:

In most amish book is always about the good and how they struggle with something in their life styles or leaving the religion. In this book the author took you for a twist and turn, super twisted for sure, but very realistic. I really liked Sadie, and her Mom they were both very stubborn and strong willed but very out spoken and they author made you feel like you were catching up with friends. I wish Elam would have been a little bit more spoken but he and his brother hands down had hearts of gold and would do anything for those they love. This book was a quit read and you really can’t go wrong with this book.
