Shaken (Heart of a Warrior series) Kariss Lynch

What the Book is about:

When her world is shaken, will her foundation survive?
Idealistic and sheltered with a passion to change the world, Kaylan Richards leaves her comfortable life in Alabama to serve in poverty-stricken Haiti. Despite her inexperience and the opposition of a voodoo priest, Kaylan develops a love for the country and the Haitian people. But something deadly is about to strike.

It is the worst earthquake the country has ever seen, and in its aftermath bodies, buildings, and broken lives litter the streets. People she cares about are dead, and Kaylan is caught in the middle of the destruction, questioning a God who said He was good.

Navy SEAL Nick Carmichael never planned to find a girl he loved more than his country. Now she is a world away, trapped in a deadly situation nothing could have prepared her for. Can Nick’s love help Kaylan heal and show her the God who never abandoned her, or will tragedy shake even the most rooted faith?

 My Thoughts on the book:

First off let me start off by saying that the book is broken up into 4 parts and so I wanted to break up my review into the same four parts, however the whole book is just that good I didn’t want to do that I feel like I would be taking the book apart to much . In first Kaylan and Sarah Beth(BFF) graduate college a semester early and decide its there turns to take on the world, well at least Hati, so Kaylan has the daunting task of telling her parents her plan, but before that can happen her past has come back and now she is having 2nd thoughts about everything. Her and Sarah have a bond that Kaylan can turn to Sarah as a sister and ask her for anything or help her with anything they are like 2 peas in a pod. I had the hardest time putting this book down it was amazing it keeps you wanting for more and just want to put life on hold for a few hours just to read this book. From the very first page to the very last page the momentum of the story does not stop. This book hand down would get 8 stars if I could give it that. If you are ready to read a book that keeps you wanting more this is your book I would have to say I could easily compare where righting and hold you in the book style to Dee Henderson.I cant think of one negative thing to say about it.

Forever Amish Kate Lloyd

About the Book:

Sally Bingham needs some time away to sort through the changes in her life and to rethink her upcoming marriage. Despite her ailing father’s hesitations, she takes off for a bed and breakfast in Lancaster County for a weekend away. But her best-laid plans leave her in a near collision with a bishop’s buggy and in the home of a mysterious Amish woman named Lizzie. Lizzie introduces her to a different perspective on life, a charming farmhand named Armin— and opens a Pandora’s box that will forever change Sally’s life. The latest book in the Legacy of Lancaster trilogy, Forever Amish introduces us to a young woman about to uncover a shocking secret and find an invitation to a new way of living. This is a story of forgiveness, legacies, and the ties that bind through generations.

My thoughts on the book:

This book is ultimately about forgiveness, and how lying can really do a lot more harm then good. I found this book captivating. The book grabs you and keeps you wanting more. It is told from one person side but the author manages to tell everyone’s story, and does an amazing job doing so. I just love Amrin he’s there but not really and then catches you and you are so intrigued by him you just want to know so much more. As Sally struggles with her past and find her future she struggles with her present to. Sally struggles with forgiveness, abandonment, and her own self worth when she receives an email from someone that take her to a place she is always drawn to but can’t figure out why. Sally struggles to figure out who she is and finds that the people closest to her may not be who she always thought they were. I just love the emotions of the characters and how she did not portray the Amish and better then or flawless but just a broken as the rest of us. The author did a good job with this book I would recommend it to anyone, but I think this would be a good book for a preteen or teenager.

Piecing It All Together Leslie Gould

Description:

When Savannah Mast’s fiance dumps her a week before their wedding, she flees California for the safety of her Amish grandmother’s farm near Nappanee, Indiana. She’s not planning on staying long but becomes unexpectedly entangled in the search for a missing Amish girl. She can’t leave–especially not when her childhood friend Tommy Miller is implicated as a suspect.

When Savannah accompanies her grandmother to Plain Patterns, a nearby quilt shop, the owner and local historian, Jane Berger, relates a tale about another woman’s disappearance back in the 1800s that has curious echoes to today.

Inspired by the story, Savannah does all she can to find the Amish girl and clear Tommy’s name. But when her former fiance shows up, begging her to return to California and marry him after all, she must choose between accepting the security of what he has to offer or continuing the complicated legacy of her family’s faith.

My thoughts on the book:

What a powerful read, or should I say two stories. This book does have a story about Savannah and Jude and the a story about Emma and Judah, Emma’s story is from the 1800’s and it totally connected to Savannah so give it a chance. I will be honest I wasn’t sure what to think at first but the read was totally worth it. I really liked Savannah and Emma they were both very strong women just looking to where they belonged. This story is about family, forgiveness, and finding where you belong. This was a book I could not put down and was such a refreshing story. This is a good clean read and so well worth it I can’t wait to see what happens next in the small town of Nappanee. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.”

With summer just around the corner, Emma St. James is eagerly planning a 5K run at Sweetwater Springs National Park. But first she needs the help of one charming, rugged, and handsome park ranger. So when Jack responds to her request with an all-too-tempting plea to pretend to be his girlfriend for the summer, how can she say no?
Jack would do anything for his sister — even pretend to give up his bachelor life to care for his nephew. Passing his days with his high school sweetheart guarantees one long, hot summer — but only because every moment together leaves him wanting a real relationship. He can’t imagine spending another season without Emma by his side. Can he convince her to give their love a second chance before the summer draws to a close?

Includes the bonus novella A Fairytale Bride!

My thoughts on the book:

I really enjoy this author so I was excited to get this book and sit down and read it.  I really feel like this book was about healing and forgiveness and finding your true self. I really liked Emma she wanted to have it all together but she still wanted to please people as well so she really was looking to find herself. She really had her heart broken in the past and turning 30 has her really thinking and making hard decisions. Jack was easy to fall in love with. I liked how the author didn’t try and make the characters perfect. I liked reading again about Dawanda and her cappuccino readings you truly never know what’s going to come out of her mouth next. There were so many fun sub characters that I want to know more about and read their stories. I love how the story draws you in and keeps you going to the end. There is adult talk but over all this book was totally worth the read and you can’t go wrong.  I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.”

Interview with Mary Alford Plus a Giveaway

Yall I am so happy to be able to sit down with Mary and find out some fun stuff stay till the end of the Interview to enter to win a book by Mary Alford. Thank you Mary for sitting down with me to do this interview.

Mary-Thank you, Sarah, for reaching out to me!

I wanted to start off with some random questions and then I will jump in to your books. Ok let’s get started.

  • What are some of your Hobbies?

Is reading considered a hobby? I’m huge reader. My Kindle is full of books and I keep adding to them almost every day. And in our neighborhood, we have our own reading club. The ladies of the neighborhood pass around the books they’ve read. Right now, I have a bag full of books to read. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to read everything that I want to read.

In addition to reading, I love to play the piano. For me, playing Christian songs on the piano is another way to draw closer to God. A form of worship.

I also play at gardening, (I say play because I mostly have a black thumb), and I love doing crafts, especially around Christmas time.

  • Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

For me, coffee is a necessity. I can’t start my day without two cups of Starbucks House Blend, (though I think it’s mostly mental since I drink decaf).

  • What’s your favorite go to meal?

Hum, that’s a hard one. Most of our meals are simple, but if I could name one meal that’s a favorite, I’d say its homemade pizza with everything, and I mean everything, on it.

  • I know some authors like to have certain snacks or drinks while they write, do you have a favorite snack food or drink around why you write?

I do! I’m a huge fan of peanut butter M&Ms and Bai Coconut Water. It’s hard to write without them. They’ve become part of my routine, although only a handful of the M&Ms. The Bai Coconut Water, well, I don’t feel bad about drinking them.

  • Do you or did you have a person that inspired you to write?

My husband has always been my biggest supporter. He encourages me to keep going when sometimes that’s not an easy thing to do, and when I fail, he props me up. He’s amazing. I can’t imagine doing what I do without him.

  • Do you have a Favorite place to write?

I know a lot of authors have offices and I do as well, but more times than not, I’ve got my laptop in my lap and I’m in my recliner with the TV going, or not. I can write either way.

  • Do you have a favorite author?

Yes, I have many. But the two that most inspire me are Lynette Eason and Christy Barritt. These ladies are dynamos. Not only are the amazing storytellers, but they are humble and giving women. I’ve asked them both for advice many times and they’re always willing to help.

  • I love that you write suspense it seems like very book I have ever read by you always have me on the edge of my seat. Is there something that inspires you to write suspense?

I’d say it’s what I enjoy reading more than anything, and I love the challenge of pitting good and against evil. Though I’m the author and I know the outcome going into a story, the journey to get to that happy ending can be challenging and thrilling to write. I love that!

  • Out of all your books do you have a favorite?

I know its corny, but my favorite is the next book I’m writing. I just turned in another Amish Suspense set in West Kootenai, Montana, and I hated to see it end. Now, I’m starting a new spy story for the next installment of the Cost of Redemption series, and I’m chomping at the bit to tell CIA Director Coleman Dean’s story.

  • I know you just released two books this month Blackbird and Amish Country Kidnapping do you have a favorite character in either one of these stories?

I love how broken the heroine in Blackbird, Sara Hersberger, is. She survived her father’s abuse only to believe he’s a serial killer. How do you get beyond that? Both Blackbird and Amish Country Kidnapping are second chance stories where the hero and heroine had once been in love, but for different reasons, their romance didn’t survive. Now they have a second chance. Those types of stories are favorites of mine.

  • Both stories are Amish based do you find it hard to keep the stories close to their Authenticity even though these are fiction books?

Amish stories in particular are hard to write, because there are religious beliefs that the Amish adhere to that must be respected. I do tons of research to make sure that I do justice to the Plain way of life, but yes, it is hard, especially when you have an Amish hero or heroine and someone who isn’t at the time of the story.

  • Which scene was most difficult to write?

In my March release, Amish Country Murder, I have a heroine who is being held by a serial killer. Writing about how desperate she felt while being held hostage, and then the terrifying escape scene were so hard to write. I wanted to keep them real, but there were limits to what I could put in the book. Writing about bad guys can be difficult.

  • Were there scenes you ended up cutting you wish you could’ve kept?

Having to cut scenes is hard. Off the top of my head, I’d say having to tone down some of the scenes to fit the story is the hardest for me. All of my books are Christian books, so it’s a balance to keep the stories real, and yet not offend anyone.

  • If you can, can you tell us what is next?

I just turned in my November Love Inspired story that is again set in West Kootenai, Montana, and it is the first book in a series about the Shelter brothers. The first book features Aaron Shelter and a woman who is on the run and hiding out near the community.

I’m also working on book four of the Courage Under Fire series. It is entitled Chinook Winds. It is the final in this series but will introduce another exiting series to come.

Well thank you again for Taking the time to do this interview

-Thank you, Sarah, for inviting me to share this time with you.

Now for the fun part click on the link below to enter to win a book by Mary. I love all her books so I am happy to be giving one away. Thank you all so much for stopping by so glad to have you here. Hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did.

The Summer House Jenny Hale

Description:

Some summers will stay with you forever…

Callie Weaver and best friend Olivia Dixon have finally done it: put their life savings into the beach house they admired through childhood summers, on the dazzling white sand of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. They’re going to buff the salt from its windows, paint its sun-bleached sidings, and open it as a bed and breakfast.

Callie’s too busy to think about her love life, but when she catches the attention of local heartthrob Luke Sullivan, his blue eyes and easy smile make it hard to say no. He’s heir to his father’s property empire, and the papers say he’s just another playboy, but as they laugh in the ocean waves, Callie realizes there’s more to this man than money and good looks.

Just when true happiness seems within reach, Callie and Olivia find a diary full of secrets… secrets that stretch across the island, and have the power to turn lives upside down. As Callie reads, she unravels a mystery that makes her heart drop through the floor.

Will Callie and Luke be pulled apart by the storm it unleashes, or can true love save them?

My thoughts on the book:

This is my first book by Ms. Hale and I will say I was not disappointed. What a fun read. I loved the friendship between Callie and Olivia, they had this unbreakable bond that no matter what one faced they were there for each other. I hope to read Olivia’s story some time soon. My heart broke a little for Callie she had faced so much and was afraid to love again, but she had this independent ready to kick butt if necessary. I really liked how this has a twist in the book that I didn’t see coming and that this book was a good clean read. I think the only thing I missed was I wished that both Luke and Callie had parts in the book I would have loved to read more about Luke and his thoughts as the story was going on since he was such a big part of the book. Overall I don’t feel like his story wasn’t necessarily told but I wish there was more from him if that makes sense. Over all I found it hard to put this book down it was very heartwarming and captivating. You really can’t go wrong with this fun love story. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. On a Summer Tide Suzanne Woods Fisher

Description:

Sometimes love hurts–and sometimes it can heal in the most unexpected way.

Camden Grayson loves her challenging career, but the rest of her life could use some improvement. “Moving on” is Cam’s mantra. But there’s a difference, her two sisters insist, between one who moves on . . . and one who keeps moving.

Cam’s full-throttle life skids to a stop when her father buys a remote island off the coast of Maine. Paul Grayson has a dream to breathe new life into the island–a dream that includes reuniting his estranged daughters. Certain Dad has lost his mind, the three sisters rush to the island. To Cam’s surprise, the slow pace of island life appeals to her, along with the locals–and one in particular. Seth Walker, the scruffy island schoolteacher harbors more than a few surprises.

With On a Summer Tide, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher begins a brand-new contemporary romance series that is sure to delight her fans and draw new ones.

My thoughts on the book:

If you are familiar with this author’s book’s, this book is not an amish book. For the first few chapters I thought for sure the author was going to try and tell all three sisters stories in one book, after about the 2nd chapter I realized the book was mainly about Cam and her story with check-ins from her sisters. I found that Cam was high strung and all about just “getting” things done. I did like how she was blunt and to the point and you never had to wonder where you stood with her. I wasn’t sure if as a reader we would find out how Libby Lost her life but that does get told later in the story and it totally broke my heart.  I really enjoyed the Island and I really loved Peg she was one of my favorite in the story over all. This book was a good clean read and suitable for all.  I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

Montana Redemption Amanda Renee

Description:

A secret worth protecting

Chelsea Logan has always had a weakness for bad boys, and Ryder Slade is no exception. She’s swept off her feet by the rugged cowboy. But that changes when Chelsea discovers that Ryder is out on parole after being convicted of killing his father. She can’t let an ex-con near her daughter or her reputation.

Yet something doesn’t add up. The Ryder she knows is thoughtful, caring and wonderful with her daughter, who is deaf. The lawyer in Chelsea won’t stop digging until she figures out what really happened. But can she ever trust a man who won’t tell her the truth, even if it is to protect someone he loves?

My thoughts on the book:
What I liked about this book is that the author kept it real, there was no perfect character in this book they are all just broken people living their lives and facing every day challenges. The characters seemed like every day people instead of just characters in a fictional story. The story just flowed and had a way of drawing you in and wanting to keep reading just to see what was going to happen next. There is some predictability to the story but unless you keep reading there’s no way to know what truly happened and how things will play out. This book has a few (I think I counted 2) curse words in the whole book. I found this book completely enjoyable, and I can’t wait to see more what will happen in Saddle Ridge Montana.

Colorado Cowboy Sara Richardson

Description:

As a champion barrel racer, Charity Stone has learned to hold her own in the male-dominated rodeo world. There’s no cowboy she can’t handle…except for one. Officer Dev Jenkins has made it clear he doesn’t look at her like one of the guys. He’s caught her attention but Charity doesn’t do relationships–especially not with a cowboy. When she suddenly finds herself in charge of her thirteen-year-old nephew, who’s had a few brushes with the law, Charity has no choice but to ask for the deputy’s help.

Dev hasn’t stopped fantasizing about Charity since she moved to Topaz Falls, but she’s been hell bent on keeping her distance. When she comes to him for help with her nephew, he finally has the chance to make his move. Winning her over won’t be easy, though–especially when her nephew’s mistakes start to threaten his town. How can he do his job and still convince Charity he’s the cowboy for her?

My thoughts on the book:

So, I really enjoy when I pick up a book and you start reading and you realize you have read other book in the series, and you can’t wait to find out what the characters have been up too. This book is exactly that, it was almost like turning on your favorite tv show or coming home after being away. I really had a hard time putting this book down. I really enjoyed how strong and independent Charity was but she also had this struggle about asking for help when it comes to those who mean the world to her the most. I also really enjoyed Dev, he’s not this perfect hero and he faces his own demons. I love the small town read on this as well. This book does have a sex scene but over all the book was a really fun read and I can’t wait for more from this fun group of friends and to catch back up with them.  I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. The Trouble with Cowboys Victoria James

Description:

Eight years ago, Tyler Donnelly left Wishing River, Montana, after a terrible fight with his father and swore he’d never return. But when his father has a stroke, guilt and duty drive him home, and nothing is as he remembers––from the run-down ranch to Lainey Sullivan, who is all grown up now. And darn if he can’t seem to stay away.

Lainey’s late grandma left her two things: the family diner and a deep-seated mistrust of cowboys. So when Tyler quietly rides back into town looking better than hot apple pie, she knows she’s in trouble. But she owes his dad everything, and she’s determined to show Ty what it means to be part of a small town…and part of a family.

Lainey’s courage pushes Ty to want to make Wishing River into a home again—together. But one of them is harboring a secret that could change everything.

My thoughts on the book:

I really enjoyed this book, I found it completely hard to put down. The Author has a way of sucking you in from the beginning and it makes you feel like you are right there, or watching it on a scene. I love how the characters truly feel like you are catching up with friends and I love the small town feel of the book. With everything that Lainey has faced she has this strong fighting spirit and you really cheer her on through the whole book. The chemistry and the raw emotions just jumped off the pages. Tyler hints at something through out the book and its not till later you find out what which kept me guessing and wanting to know what was going to happen next with him and his Dad. Over all the book is a great read and does have some language but over all I would say totally worth the read.
